Thinking of Switching Brands of Dog or Cat Food?

There are many reasons to switch foods. Let's look at some of the reasons to switch & see if they apply to your pet.

My dog/cat doesn't like his food anymore

Maybe they are bored with eating the same flavor every single day, you would too. If your pet does well on that food you can try rotating flavors with every new bag. Diamond Naturals, Taste of the Wild, Fromm, Zignature, Born Free and Nutrisource all come in many different flavors. If that does not help try a different food.

Your dog/cat is less active & gaining weight

Switch to weight management food with less calories such as Fromm Weight Management, Diamond Naturals Light or Nutrisource Senior/Weight Management for cats or Weight Management for dogs. Read the bags for the calorie content to see which food has the least calories.

Very active pets can be hard to keep weight on so again the calorie content listed on the bags will help guide you to the best food. There are Active or Performance foods specially made for high calorie energy needs.

Many pet foods make Senior formulas. These usually are reduced calorie foods with added glucosamine or chondrotin to help prevent joint damage. They usually also contain lactobacillus fermentation products for better digestion. Diamond Naturals Senior is formulated for active senior dogs that don't need to cut calories.

Your dog/cat has a dry skin and coat or an upset stomach/diarrhea

These problems with your pet are common reasons to switch foods. Talk with the staff at Spike's Store Locations about which foods to consider switching your pet to. Diamond Naturals makes a Skin & Coat formula for dry skin & coat. Any food containing fish may be higher in omega oils which help dry skin. Zignature, Fromm, Taste of the Wild, Born Free and Nutrisource all have fish formulas.

Read the Spikes article on allergies to help with determining whether or not your pet has a food allergy or sensitivity. Upset stomach can be caused by many things so make gradual changes to help find what your pet was not digesting well.
